AEL takes seriously its role in monitoring pending legislation and advising legislators regarding the implications of matters before them. AEL often finds itself working closely with other education interest groups toward the same ends. The Legislation Committee takes the lead in keeping AEL officers informed and working with staff in developing strategies for delivering AEL's position on issues affecting its interests.

As described in Members Services, effective with the 2008-09 school year legislative (and policy) monitoring and action will be strengthened with the addition of a staff member to lead the process.
