AEL membership is comprised solely of Board of Education designated
Unit 2
employees. Most of AEL’s activities is on behalf of the entire Unit 2
staff. The most visible and tangible include collective bargaining for salaries and working conditions.
Less visible but often equally as important are monitoring and defending the fair and equitable application of policy, procedure, administrative regulations and the provisions of the Negotiated Agreement.
Monitoring legislation and conferencing with policy makers are very important efforts that help decision-makers understand the implications of their options.
These and related tasks so crucial to all Unit 2
employees both personally and professionally are neither easy nor free. While AEL membership is voluntary contributing to its support by all who benefit from its work is an ethical, if not moral, obligation. Additionally, membership carries with it numerous opportunities to contribute talent, insight and experience to AEL’s business thereby strengthening the Association itself and its greater purpose.
Historically, the recruitment of new members has been chiefly the responsibility of the Association Administrator. Member approval in June of 2008 of a restatement of goal and restructuring of the Membership Committee will shift the member recruitment focus to colleagues and associates.
Membership Committee members for 2008-09 are to be determined..
